v34_1329 - VEREDVNVM CIVITAS - VERDUN (Meuse) Triens, DODO monétaire

Ce triens ne rentre pas dans le classement du Sthal ; le droit correspond exactement au style du D1a (BN. 998) du monétaire FRAGIVLFVS, le type de croix du revers correspond au D3a (BN. 1000) du monétaire TOTTOLENO, mais si le monétaire DODO (indiqué sur notre triens) est bien attesté pour Verdun, aucune de ses monnaies ne correspond à celle proposée ici. Stahl a répertorié huit triens pour DODO, pour sept références différentes (D4a-D4g). Le D4c a un style légèrement approchant, mais le revers à la croix ancrée est différent. Cet exemplaire semblerait donc inédit, mais ce serait sans considérer le Belfort qui illustre justement cet exemplaire (à moins que ce n'en soit un très très proche) comme provenant du musée de Salins. Il est regrettable que cette monnaie pourtant publiée dans l'ouvrage de base ait été négligée ! Seul le Moneta reprend cet exemplaire en l'associant à la monnaie BN. 1003 (=D4c) qui est pourtant d'un autre type au revers.
This triens does not fit into the Sthal classification; the obverse corresponds exactly to the style of D1a (BN. 998) of the FRAGIVLFVS coin, the type of cross on the reverse corresponds to D3a (BN. 1000) of the TOTTOLENO coin, but if the DODO coin (indicated on our triens) is well attested for Verdun, none of its coins correspond to the one proposed here. Stahl listed eight triens for DODO, for seven different references (D4a-D4g). The D4c has a slightly similar style, but the reverse with the anchored cross is different. This example would therefore seem unpublished, but that would be without considering the Belfort which illustrates this example (unless it is a very very close one) as coming from the Salins museum. It is regrettable that this coin, although published in the basic work, has been neglected! Only the Moneta includes this example by associating it with the BN coin. 1003 (=D4c) which is however of another type on the reverse
