Avant les trois exemplaires de CELTIC II, nous n’avions proposé que trois monnaies de ce type ; le n° 1009 de MONNAIES XV, ainsi que les bga_211670 et bga_232492.
Le revers n’est pas sans rappeler le bronze LT. 7342 (du dépôt de Saint-André-sur-Cailly, cf. DT. 662), ce qui confirmerait l’attribution aux Véliocasses.

VELIOCASSES (Region die Normandie
(2. – 1. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)
Die Véliocasses, ein Volk im belgischen Gallien, lebten im normannischen Vexin im heutigen Departement Seine-Maritime. Ihre Nachbarn waren die Lexovians und die Aulerci Éburovices, mit der Seine als Grenze, und auf der anderen Seite die Parisii, die Calètes und die Bellovaques. Sie beteiligten sich an der belgischen Koalition von 57 v. Chr. unter der Führung der Bellovaques und stellten ein Kontingent von zehntausend Mann. Aber im Jahr 52 v. Chr. stellte das Hilfsheer nur dreitausend Mann zur Verfügung, um den in Alesia belagerten Vercingetorix freizulassen. Im folgenden Jahr, im Jahr 51 v. Chr., beteiligten sie sich zum letzten Mal an der Koalition der aufständischen Belgier unter der Führung der Bellovaques. Ihr Hauptoppidum war Rouen (Rotomagus). Caesar (BG. II, 4; VII, 75; VIII, 7); Plinius (HN. IV). Ptolemaios (G. II, 8). Kruta: 366.
