Le type de l’homme sauvage pourrait ici s’apparenter au personnage mythique d’Hercule. Il est intéressant de noter ici les décors de bordure de ce méreau à compte anépigraphe ; les annelets semblent inspirer des globules des méreaux à compte lombards et italiens tandis que les quintefeuilles particularisent souvent avec les lis des méreaux à compte angevins de Naples.

Historischer Hintergrund
PRINCES DU SANG ROYAL DE FRANCE - ROUYER - IV.
Nicolas-Joseph-Jules Rouyer (1820-1898) vermachte 1897 seine Münz- und Medaillensammlung der Medaillenabteilung der französischen Nationalbibliothek. Sein Wunsch, seine Sammlung intakt zu halten und sie seinen Mitbürgern vollständig, zugänglich und nützlich zu hinterlassen, scheinen die Hauptgründe für dieses Vermächtnis zu sein. Die Sammlung begann um 1840 und Rouyer gab 1844 seinen ersten Artikel an die Revue numismatique weiter. Mehr als ein halbes Jahrhundert später umfasst der Nachlass unter anderem Jetons und Münzen aus dem Jahr 1860 aus dem Mittelalter. Im Jahr 1899 wurde die Sammlung klassifiziert und indexiert und anschließend von Henri de La Tour in zwei Bänden veröffentlicht. Der erste Band, der 1860 Token und Mereaux aus dem Mittelalter umfasst, die laut Rouyer am interessantesten sind, wurde im Jahr 2000 neu veröffentlicht und ist immer noch eine wesentliche Quelle für diese Denkmäler der Vergangenheit..
