Historischer Hintergrund
PONT - PHARNACIA
(2. – 1. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)
Die Stadt wurde um 180 v. Chr. von Pharnaces I. (185-149 n. Chr.), König von Pontus und Großvater von Mithridates VI. Eupator, an der Stelle des antiken Cerasus gegründet. Es war eine befestigte Küstenstadt. Zur Zeit der römischen Eroberung verlor es seine Bedeutung.
