Ce type de drachme est très rare ; pour le type PII A “avec la croix à quatre globules sur la joue” les auteurs de l’article de la RN 1996 ont étudié 10 monnaies, dont les six de la BN et les trois de Nantes. Pour cette variété, nous ne connaissons que quatre exemplaires passés sur le marché ; un exemplaire dans la collection Vian vendu chez Poindessault, un vendu chez Barré en décembre 1997, un chez Bourgey en mars 1985 et un dernier dans la vente LEU 86 de mai 2003.

L'attribution proposée dans le Nouvel Atlas est aux Bituriges, de même que les drachmes dites "au cavalier ailé des Pictons". Si l'attribution aux Pictons n'est pas totalement satisfaisante pour ces drachmes "au cavalier et bouclier", tout attribuer aux Bituriges nous semble assez arbitraire….
This type of drachma is very rare; for the PII A type “with the four-globule cross on the cheek” the authors of the RN 1996 article studied 10 coins, including the six from the BN and the three from Nantes. For this variety, we know of only four examples that have been on the market; one example in the Vian collection sold at Poindessault, one sold at Barré in December 1997, one at Bourgey in March 1985 and a last one in the LEU 86 sale of May 2003. The attribution proposed in the New Atlas is to the Bituriges, as are the drachmas called “with the winged rider of the Pictons”. If the attribution to the Pictons is not entirely satisfactory for these drachmas “with the rider and shield”, attributing everything to the Bituriges seems rather arbitrary to us…
