Suite à la première guerre de l’opium (1839-1842), le traité de Nankin entérine la cession par la Chine de Hong Kong au Royaume Uni. The treaties signed in 1860 (Kowloon) and 1898 (New Territories) expanded the territory of the British colony. On July 1, 1997, the colony was returned to the People's Republic of China.
