Selon le collectionneur : ”Les premières loges roumaines furent fondées en 1856 à Galatzi et à Jassy, en 1857 à Bucarest, toutes trois sous le nom d’Etoile du Danube. En 1880, il y avait dans le pays une vingtaine de loges, qui se constituèrent en une Grande Loge Nationale de Roumanie. En 1881 furent créés deux Suprêmes Conseils, l’un pour le rite de Menphis, l’autre pour le Rite Ecossais Ancien et Accepté. Ils fusionnèrent en 1886.
En 1940, les loges furent interdites par le régime du général Antonescu. Leur réveil se fit à la fin de 1944. En 1945 était reconstitué une Grande Loge Nationale de Roumanie. Mais l’activité maçonnique fut soumise à la surveillance policière et en 1948, le gouvernement communiste décida à la fermeture définitive des loges. Ce qui nous permet d’annoncer que la frappe de cette médaille est antérieure à 1948.”.

In 1881, two Supreme Councils were created, one for the Rite of Memphis, the other for the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. They merged in 1886. In 1940, the lodges were banned by the regime of General Antonescu. They revived at the end of 1944. In 1945, a National Grand Lodge of Romania was reconstituted. But Masonic activity was subject to police surveillance and in 1948, the communist government decided to permanently close the lodges. Der Kompass und das Quadrat werden sehr oft in einem ambivalenten Symbol des Gleichgewichts verbunden: Festigkeit und Beweglichkeit, passiv und aktiv, Materie und Geist.. Der Kompass ist das Werkzeug des Schöpfers und des großen Architekten des Universums. Der Abstand der Zirkelzweige folgt genauen Regeln und variiert je nach den drei Graden: Lehrling, Gefährte, Meister. Die napoleonische Ära erlebte nach den schrecklichen Jahren der Revolutionszeit in der Tätigkeit der Logen wie auch vieler Gruppen eine Blüte. Die Freimaurertätigkeit, befreit von ihren republikanischen Theorien und streng kontrolliert von einem vom Kaiser ernannten Großmeister, erlebte eine nie dagewesene Kraft der Einheit.. Man geht davon aus, dass jedes Regiment, jede Garnison, jede Stadt ihre Loge hatte. Die Zeugnisse, die uns die kostbaren Zeugnisse dieser Zeit hinterlassen, zeigen, dass diese Logen reich und einflussreich waren.. Die Symbolik ist gesucht, ohne Vergleich mit den späteren Epochen, die zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts viel konventioneller, sogar langweiliger oder mittelloser waren.. Die Freimaurerei hatte mehr als tausend Logen, verteilt auf einhundertdreißig Abteilungen, und mehr als sechzigtausend Brüder.
