Philippe, duc d'Anjou (1683-1746) était le petit-fils de Louis XIV. À la mort de Charles II d'Espagne en 1700, il fut désigné comme roi par testament. Il mit treize ans à conquérir son royaume, ayant comme compétiteur Charles III de Habsbourg (futur Charles VI d'Autriche). Il est l'ancêtre des Bourbons d'Espagne qui règnent encore aujourd'hui. En devenant roi d'Espagne et des Indes, il avait renoncé à toute prétention sur le trône de France.
Philippe, Duke of Anjou (1683-1746) was the grandson of Louis XIV. On the death of Charles II of Spain in 1700, he was designated as king by will. He took thirteen years to conquer his kingdom, having as a competitor Charles III of Habsburg (future Charles VI of Austria). He is the ancestor of the Bourbons of Spain who still reign today. By becoming king of Spain and the Indies, he had renounced all claim to the throne of France.
