Historischer Hintergrund
ELYSIQUES (oppidum of Ensérune)
(2. – 1. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)
Die Elysier sind ein kleines Volk iberischen Ursprungs aus der Region Narbonne, dessen Oppidum mit Ensérune identifiziert werden konnte. Er ist uns durch eine Erwähnung von Herodot, dem „Vater der Geschichte“, bekannt, der darauf hinweist, dass gallische Söldner (Élysiques) im Jahr 480 v. Chr., zur Zeit der Belagerung von Himera (Sizilien), in der karthagischen Armee gedient haben. Quellen: Herodot (H. VII, 165).
