Avec ce revers, nous avons deux variétés de buste nu avec ou sans drapé sur l’épaule gauche. Suivant les exemplaires la représentation du bûcher funéraire (rogus) est légèrement différente, mais toujours avec quatre étages dont le premier est décoré et sert de base, le second avec des ouvertures.

Historischer Hintergrund

Konsekration des Marcus Aurelius und des Lucius Verus
Antonin wurde im Jahr 86 geboren. Bereits im Jahr 144 wurde er schwer krank und wäre beinahe gestorben. Ab 160 ist der Kaiser ständig bettlägerig. Zu Beginn des Jahres 161 steht Antonin nicht mehr auf und stirbt am 7. März 161. Er wird sofort von Marcus Aurelius vergöttlicht und im Mausoleum des Hadrian, der heutigen Engelsburg, beigesetzt. Das Krematorium „Ustrinum Antonini Pii“ scheint dasjenige zu sein, das bereits 141 für die Einäscherung Faustinas der Älteren genutzt wurde. Es befindet sich in Regio IX des Circus Maximus, westlich des Corso, in der Nähe der heutigen Piazza Montecitorio.
