Même coin de droit que l’exemplaire de la collection Levante (Levante, n° 15 , pl. 106). Le revers reprend la typologie des monnaies attribuées à Antiochus IV Epiphanes (175-164 avant J.-C.).

Historischer Hintergrund
CILICIE - HIÉRAPOLIS-CASTABALA
(2.-1. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)
Hierapolis, auf Pyramos östlich von Anazarbos gelegen, scheint vor der Herrschaft von Antiochos IV. nicht bekannt zu sein. Chr. wurde sie zur Hauptstadt der Könige von Kilikien unter Tarkondimotos I. (39-31 n. Chr.), dann Philopator. Nach dessen Tod unter Tiberius um das Jahr 17 wurde das Königreich an Rom angeschlossen. Zwischen der Herrschaft von Antoninus Pius und Gallien befand sich dort eine kaiserliche Werkstatt.
