v26_0741 - CHEPPES (CAPPAS) Triens, MAVRINIVS monétaire

Ce très rare triens, bien que sur un flan court légèrement décentré, complète parfaitement l'exemplaire B. 1397 provenant de la collection de Rothschild puis d'Amécourt, lui aussi décentré mais présentant les légendes qui nous manquent et vis versa. Notre exemplaire, associé à celui du Belfort, permet de restituer la légende de revers MAVRINO MONETARI.
Pour cet atelier marnais, G. Depeyrot ne recense qu'un triens sous le "type 21-1A, croix en couronne". Il n'a d'ailleurs étudié aucun autre exemplaire que celui du Belfort, qui est aussi celui du Prou. Complétées par cet exemplaire, les légendes sont CAPPAS FICIT, pour le droit et MAVRINO MONETARI pour le revers. La légende MAVRINO est aussi présente au droit d'un triens attribué à Barlieu dans le Cher (Prou 1676), au revers d'un triens indéterminé (Prou 2679) et au revers d'un autre triens attribué à Melun en Seine-et-Marne (MAVRINO MON, Prou 565). Notre monnayeur est peut-être le même, au moins pour ce triens de Cheppes et pour celui de Melun, deux villes distantes d'environ 150 kilomètres. Il pourrait être intéressant de reconstituer le cheminement de ce graveur itinérant....
This very rare triens, although on a slightly off-center short flan, perfectly complements example B. 1397 from the Rothschild and then Amécourt collections, which is also off-center but has the missing legends and vice versa. Our example, associated with that of Belfort, allows us to reconstruct the reverse legend MAVRINO MONETARI. For this Marne workshop, G. Depeyrot only lists one triens under the \\\"type 21-1A, crowned cross\\\". He has not studied any other example than that of Belfort, which is also that of Prou. Completed by this example, the legends are CAPPAS FICIT, for the obverse and MAVRINO MONETARI for the reverse. The legend MAVRINO is also present on the obverse of a triens attributed to Barlieu in Cher (Prou 1676), on the reverse of an undetermined triens (Prou 2679) and on the reverse of another triens attributed to Melun in Seine-et-Marne (MAVRINO MON, Prou 565). Our coiner is perhaps the same, at least for this triens of Cheppes and for that of Melun, two towns about 150 kilometers apart. It could be interesting to reconstruct the journey of this itinerant engraver...
