L’interdiction de la représentation de l’homme et des animaux valorise grandement l’écriture, d’autant plus que le Coran dit explicitement que l’art d’écrire est d’essence divine (sourate 96, verset 4). Les inscriptions ont donc à la fois une fonction de prosélytisme religieux et un rôle esthétique.

Kalif
Er wurde am 13. Januar 915 in Cordoba geboren. Unter seiner Herrschaft erreichte das Kalifat seinen Höhepunkt. Als großer Gelehrter trat er am 15. Oktober 961 die Nachfolge seines Vaters Abd Al-Rahman III. an. Er setzte sich dafür ein, die Politik der Emanzipation von Bagdad fortzusetzen und Córdoba zu einer der wichtigsten Städte Europas zu entwickeln. Er führt die schönste und bedeutendste Erweiterung der Moschee von Cordoba durch und vollendet den Bau der Medina al-Zahara. Er starb am 1. Oktober 976 und hinterließ eine florierende Wirtschaft und ein friedliches Kalifat..
