Le sixième groupe des frappes de Vespasien commence en l’an 1 et se poursuit jusqu’à l’an 3, il est donc directement lié à la Guerre Juive, avec un maximum de production en l’an 2. Il se caractérise par un aigle avec couronne dans le bec mais sur une massue, sans croissant entre les pattes.
Très homogène, on n’y trouve que deux, peut-être trois graveurs, dont l’un exceptionnel, celui de notre exemplaire, qui utilise au mieux les possibilités offertes par une fonderie qui arrive à fournir des flans très larges. Les portraits sont de particulièrement grand module : on est bien loin des petits portraits stéréotypés des deniers de l’atelier de Rome !

Dans la base TSP maintenue par Michel Prieur, vingt exemplaires seulement sont maintenant répertoriés ; aucun exemplaire au Cabinet des Médailles de Paris.

It is characterized by an eagle with a crown in its beak but on a club, without a crescent between the legs. Very homogeneous, we find only two, perhaps three engravers, one of whom is exceptional, that of our example, who makes the most of the possibilities offered by a foundry that manages to provide very large blanks.
