Ce type de tête est bien caractéristique, très proche des drachmes S. 113 et 114. Cette exemplaire semblerait avoir été frappée avec le même coin de droit que la monnaie S. 113, mais l’angle formé entre le front et le nez est plus fermé sur la monnaie proposée ici.

Historischer Hintergrund
GALLIEN - SÜDWESTGALLEIN - TOLOSATES (Region die Vielle-Toulouse)
(2. – 1. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)
Die Tolosates, Teil der Volques Tectosages, besetzten die Region Tolosa (Alt-Toulouse). Sie wären nach 105 v. Chr. von Quintus Servilius Cæpio vorgelegt worden. Diese Episode wäre der Ursprung des Mythos vom Gold von Toulouse „Aurum Tolosanum“. Tolosa, ihre Hauptstadt, gehörte vor dem Gallischen Krieg zur Provinz Narbonnaise und grenzte an das unabhängige Gallien. Während der Gallischen Kriege scheinen die Tolosaten dem römischen Bündnis treu geblieben zu sein. Quellen: Caesar (BG. I, 10; III, 20; VII, 7); Strabo (G. IV, 14).
