Selon les travaux de P. Schiesser à paraître, sur “Le système trimétallique provençal de Théodebert (534-548)”, cette monnaie (reprise en n° 5) appartient au “Type, à la titulature de Théodebert autour d’un buste au droit et au revers A+R, attribuable à Arles”. Selon le Moneta, cinq exemplaires de ce type sont recensés, trouvés à Gray (Haute-Saône), à Nesle-Hodeng (Seine-Maritime), Saint-Victor-de-Marseille, Gye-sur-Seine, et Lyon dans la Saône..

Schiesser to be published, on “The Provençal trimetallic system of Théodebert (534-548)”, this coin (reprinted in no. 5) belongs to the “Type, with the title of Théodebert around a bust on the obverse and A+R on the reverse, attributable to Arles”. According to the Moneta, five examples of this type have been recorded, found in Gray (Haute-Saône), Nesle-Hodeng (Seine-Maritime), Saint-Victor-de-Marseille, Gye-sur-Seine, and Lyon in the Saône.

Historischer Hintergrund
KÖNIGREICH DER FRANCS - THEUDEBERT I
(534-548)
Théodebert, geboren um 505, ist der Sohn von Thierry I. (485-534) und Suavegotta, der Tochter von Sigismond, dem König der Burgunder. Er ist auch der Enkel von Chlodwig, dem König der Franken (481–511). Er trat 534 die Nachfolge seines Vaters als König von Reims an. Mit seinen Onkeln Childebert I. (511–558) und Chlothar I. (511–561) unterwarf er das Burgundische Königreich endgültig. Im Jahr 539 ließ er sich von Vitigès (536-540), dem König der Ostgoten, die Provence und einen Teil von Septimanien überlassen. Er starb 548 und sein Sohn Theodebald (535-555) folgte ihm nach. Nach seinem Tod wurde das Königreich Reims mit dem von Clothaire I. wiedervereinigt.
