v41_1650 - ROUEN (ROTOMO CIVITAS) - (Seine-Maritime) Triens, monétaire indéterminé

Avec la légende ROT...OM CI, ce triens peut être attribué de façon certaine à la cité de Rouen. Le métal est granuleux, en bas alliage. Les deux triens inédits n° 36 et 37 de la collection Chwartz avaient aussi cette caractéristique ; tous deux avec une crois ancrée au revers. P. Crinon précise que ces deux exemplaires “inédits avant le catalogue sont en or bas. Ils ont donc été frappés dans les années 660/675, à la fin du monnayage d’or par des monétaires qui sont également auteurs de triens en bon aloi”.
Il est difficile de restituer le monétaire à l'origine de l'exemplaire proposé ici. La légende visible (...) OALIII rappelle partiellement AIGOALDO ou DOMAIGOALDO. Notons une différence au niveau de l'oméga qui surmonte la croix ; il n'est pas complet et fusionne la lettre A située vers une heure.
With the legend ROT...OM CI, this triens can be attributed with certainty to the city of Rouen. The metal is granular, in low alloy. The two unpublished triens no. 36 and 37 of the Chwartz collection also had this characteristic; both with a cross anchored on the reverse. P. Crinon specifies that these two examples “unpublished before the catalog are in low gold. They were therefore struck in the years 660/675, at the end of the gold coinage by minters who were also authors of triens in good alloy”. It is difficult to restore the mint at the origin of the example proposed here. The visible legend (...) OALIII partially recalls AIGOALDO or DOMAIGOALDO. Note a difference at the level of the omega which surmounts the cross; it is not complete and merges the letter A located around one o'clock
