Pascal Van Waeyenbergh nous communique : “Le pont représenté sur ce jeton ne peut pas être le pont de Neuilly comme l’indique Feuardent puisque celui-ci n'est reconstruit en pierre qu'en 1772 et que de plus, son environnement de l'époque ne ressemble en rien à la scène figurée au revers. D'après mes recherches, ce jeton a été frappé à l'occasion de la reconstruction en pierre du Pont Royal. L'architecture de ce dernier ainsi que son environnement à la fin du XVIIIème siècle correspondent en tous points à la représentation figurée sur le revers de ce jeton. De plus, le Pont Royal fut terminé en 1689 (date correspondant au portrait âgé du roi) et la construction fut financée par Louis XIV en personne, événements qui méritaient bien la frappe d'un jeton commémoratif. Pascal Van Waeyenbergh tells us: “The bridge represented on this token cannot be the Neuilly Bridge as Feuardent indicates since it was not rebuilt in stone until 1772 and, moreover, its environment at the time bears no resemblance to the scene depicted on the reverse. According to my research, this token was struck on the occasion of the reconstruction in stone of the Pont Royal. The architecture of the latter as well as its environment at the end of the 18th century correspond in every way to the representation depicted on the reverse of this token. In addition, the Pont Royal was completed in 1689 (the date corresponding to the elderly portrait of the king) and the construction was financed by Louis XIV himself, events which well merited the striking of a commemorative token.
