Les auteurs du Roman Provincial Coinage n’ont répertorié que trois exemplaires pour l’an 18, tous dans des musées (Paris, Londres et Copenhague). L’an 19 est une date très tardive pour Britannicus puisqu’il a été assassiné en 55. C’est donc une monnaie posthume. Dans le Supplément I du RPC, trois nouveaux exemplaires ont été signalés pour l’an 19 qui se trouve ainsi confirmé. Un exemplaire daté de l’an 18 (MONNAIES XXV, n° 217) a été vendu 828 € sur une offre maximum à 1265 € avec 13 offres.
The authors of the Roman Provincial Coinage listed only three examples for the year 18, all in museums (Paris, London and Copenhagen). The year 19 is a very late date for Britannicus since he was assassinated in 55. It is therefore a posthumous coin. Historischer Hintergrund
POLEMO II AND BRITANNICUS
(55-57)
Es war Marc Antoine, der 36 v. Chr. einen Teil des Königreichs Pontus von Mithridates VI. (120-63 v. Chr.) zugunsten von Polemon I. wiederherstellte. Octave bestätigte ihm 30 v. Chr. seine Besitztümer. Er heiratete Dynamis, die Tochter von Mithridates VI von Pontus, Witwe von Asander (47-17 v. Chr.), König des Bosporus. Es war schließlich Pythodoris, eine weitere Frau von Polemon I., die im Jahr 8 v. Chr. ihre Nachfolge antrat. Dann war es Antonia Tryphænea, Tochter von Polemon I., die im Jahr 22 die Nachfolge ihrer Mutter antrat. Ab 38 verband sie ihren Sohn Polemon II. mit dem Thron. Antonia starb im Jahr 49. Polemon erhielt von Caligula auch das Königreich des Bosporus. Im Jahr 64 ließ Nero Polemon absetzen, der sich nach Kilikien zurückzog. Sein Königreich wurde eine römische Provinz.
