D’après l’ouvrage d’Henri Nocq, cette médaille présente à l’avers la face n°5 de Louis XVI tandis que le revers correspond au n°86 du catalogue du Musée Monétaire, règne de Louis XVI (coin ancien).
D’après l’ouvrage d’Alcius Ledieu (1850-1912), intitulé “Le maréchal de Mailly, dernier commandant pour le roi à Abbeville”, édité en 1895 par les éditeurs A. Picard et fils (Paris), cette médaille est un prix annuel. “En 1779, M. de Mailly fonda des prix annuels pour l’université, consistant en une médaille d’or et une médaille d’argent pour chacune des quatre facultés”. Les facultés concernées semblent être liées à “l’établissement de cours de botanique, d’anatomie, d’opérations chirurgicales, de bandages, de physique et d’histoire naturelle” (citations pp.28-29).
D’après l’ouvrage “Manuel de numismatique française. Médailles, jetons, méreaux / par A. Blanchet et A. Dieudonné”, de Jules-Adrien Blanchet (1866-1957), on sait que “L’Université fut reconstituée par les soins du comte de Mailly, gouverneur du Roussillon en 1759. Il y institua des prix en 1778 et 1779, sous forme de médailles qui portent ses armes, au revers du buste de Louis XVI, et dont on connaît des exemplaires d’or et d’argent.” En note de bas de page est cité l’article d’Achille Colson, 1853, “Recherches sur les monnaies qui ont eu cours en Roussillon” dans le Bulletin de la Société agricole, scientifique et littéraire des Pyrénées-orientales.
Par ailleurs, dans le cas présent, nous serions sur la médaille qui fut émise entre 1790 et 1793. En effet, d’après l'article de l'abbé Torreilles, intitulé “L’Université de Perpignan avant et pendant la Révolution Française”, publié dans le bulletin de la Société agricole, scientifique et littéraire des Pyrénées-orientales, l’Université de Perpignan fut fermée en 1793. Cette date nous permet de dater la fin de distribution officielle des médailles .

Dieudonné”, by Jules-Adrien Blanchet (1866-1957), we know that “The University was reconstituted by the care of the Count of Mailly, governor of Roussillon in 1759. He established prizes there in 1778 and 1779, in the form of medals bearing his coat of arms, on the reverse of the bust of Louis XVI, and of which gold and silver examples are known.. \\\"A footnote cites the article by Achille Colson, 1853, “Research on the coins that were current in Roussillon” in the Bulletin of the Agricultural, Scientific and Literary Society of the Pyrénées-Orientales.
Moreover, in this case, we would be on the medal which was issued between 1790 and 1793. Indeed, according to the article by Abbot Torreilles, entitled “The University of Perpignan before and during the French Revolution”, published in the bulletin of the Agricultural, Scientific and Literary Society of the Pyrénées-Orientales, the University of Perpignan was closed in 1793.
