Cette monnaie commémore le 600e anniversaire de la bataille de Grunwald aussi appelée 1ère bataille de Tannenberg. Le 15 juillet 1410, cette bataille opposent les chevaliers Teutoniques aux troupes polonaises du roi Ladislas II et à l’armée lituanienne du grand-duc Vytautas. C’est une terrible défaite pour l’ordre, qui perd aussi son grand maître, Ulrich von Jungingen, tué au combat. A l’issue de la bataille, la Pologne récupère la Prusse occidentale et devient la grande puissance régionale..
