Historischer Hintergrund
JUSTINIANUS I

Justinian trat 527 die Nachfolge seines Onkels Justin an, nachdem er vom 4. April bis 1. August 527 eine Mitregentschaft innehatte. Er regierte zusammen mit Kaiserin Theodora. Der Bau der Hagia Sophia wurde unter seiner Herrschaft abgeschlossen, was den Höhepunkt der byzantinischen Eroberungen markiert. Karthago sowie Afrika und ein Teil von Numidien wurden dank General Bélisaire von den Vandalen zurückerobert. Nach einem Jahrhundert der Herrschaft der Vandalen herrschte der Romanismus erneut über das Mittelmeer. Daraufhin griff Belisar die Ostgoten an und eroberte Rom am 9. Dezember 536. Theodora starb 545. Justinian regierte weitere zwanzig Jahre. Sein kinderloser Neffe Justin II. folgte ihm nach..
