Ce statère appartient à la deuxième phase du monnayage ambien ; les flans ont tendance à être plus étroits et à s’épaissir, mais les monnaies sont toujours bifaces, avec une tête stylisée au droit. Bien que figurant déjà dans le Lambert en 1864 (pl. VI, n° 5), ce type précis semble très rare et manque à tous les musées consultés. Cet exemplaire correspond exactement au DT. 163 qui constitue la var. 3 de la classe II “dérivés de l’ouest” pour la série des statères bifaces de flan court.
This stater belongs to the second phase of the Ambian coinage; the flans tend to be narrower and thicker, but the coins are always biface, with a stylized head on the obverse. Although already appearing in the Lambert in 1864 (pl. VI, no. 5), this precise type seems very rare and is missing from all the museums consulted. This example corresponds exactly to DT. 163 which constitutes var. 3 of class II “western derivatives” for the series of short-flank biface staters
