L’année 2009 a été déclarée Année mondiale de l’Astronomie par l’Unesco et l’ONU à l’occasion du 400e anniversaire de la première utilisation de la lunette astronomique par Galilée et du 40e anniversaire du premier pas sur la Lune par Neil Armstrong. Pour commémorer cet événement la Monnaie de Paris a édité un pièce Belle Épreuve rehaussée d’une innovation technologique: une pièce bombée représentant le relief lunaire sur son revers convexe.
Proof coin presented in its case with a numbered certificate from the Monnaie de Paris (n°00291). The year 2009 was declared International Year of Astronomy by UNESCO and the UN on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the first use of the astronomical telescope by Galileo and the 40th anniversary of Neil Armstrong's first step on the Moon. To commemorate this event, the Monnaie de Paris issued a Proof coin enhanced with a technological innovation: a domed coin representing the lunar relief on its convex reverse.
