Remade A mint letter on BB. The deeply engraved master mark reveals a diamond underneath. There is a tiny die break in BARRE. This example is made with the best quality engraved dies. However, the slightly clumsy engraving of the hair above the crown and the imperfect alignment of the word FRANC on the reverse are the mark of the work of a great forger! Of great interest because, noting that his “BB”, certainly made with two juxtaposed B punches, was not a similar one, he covered it with an A punch, without however changing the Strasbourg mark on the obverse. This is probably the only fake to serve as a fault in French numismatics. It is published in the Bulletin Numismatique n° 007, on the front page
