Harpers Ferry est un village historique situé au confluent du Potomac et de la Shenandoah, à la frontière entre le Maryland, la Virginie et la Virginie-Occidentale. La ville abrite un arsenal qui est en 1859 la cible d’un raid mené par l’abolitionniste John Brown. Ville stratégique à la jonction de deux rivières et de plusieurs lignes de chemin de fer, Harpers Ferry est l’objet de durs combats pendant la Guerre Civile. Entre 1861 et 1865, la ville change huit fois de mains.
Launched in early 2010, 'America the Beautiful' is a program of 56 commemorative quarter dollar coins depicting the national parks and other national sites of the United States of America. Harpers Ferry is a historic village located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers, on the border between Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The town is home to an arsenal that was raided in 1859 by abolitionist John Brown. A strategic town at the junction of two rivers and several railroad lines, Harpers Ferry was the site of heavy fighting during the Civil War. Between 1861 and 1865, the town changed hands eight times.
