Historischer Hintergrund
SPANIEN - WESTGOTEN - SISEBUT
(612-02/621)
Sisebut wurde 612 nach dem Tod von Gundmar zum König der Westgoten gewählt. Seine Herrschaft war geprägt von katholischer Intoleranz, die sich insbesondere durch die Verfolgung der Juden auszeichnete. Als Eroberer unterwarf er die Astures und die Vascons. Er baute eine ziemlich große Flotte auf, die sogar Ceuta belagerte, das damals unter byzantinischer Herrschaft stand. Er starb im Februar 621 ermordet, wahrscheinlich im Anschluss an eine von General Suintila angezettelte Verschwörung.
