Type en frappe médaille. La frappe monnaie est plus rare. Cette monnaie est frappée à Oñate, ville du Pays Basque alors siège du quartier général des troupes carlistes.
En 1833, Ferdinand VII supprime la loi salique, ce qui permet à sa fille Isabelle II de lui succèder. Son frère, l’infant Charles V de Bourbon, se proclama roi soutenu par une partie du peuple espagnol, les “carlistes”. Les prétendants carlistes seront à l’origine de trois guerres. La dernière (1872-1876) est dirigée par son petit-fils Charles VII contre Amédée de Savoie puis contre la 1ère République.
Medal-struck type. Coin striking is rarer. This coin was struck in Oñate, a town in the Basque Country, then the headquarters of the Carlist troops. In 1833, Ferdinand VII abolished the Salic law, allowing his daughter Isabel II to succeed him. Her brother, the Infante Charles V of Bourbon, proclaimed himself king, supported by a section of the Spanish people, the “Carlists.” The Carlist pretenders would be at the origin of three wars. The last (1872-1876) was led by his grandson Charles VII against Amadeus of Savoy and then against the First Republic.
