Historischer Hintergrund
DEUXIÈME RÉPUBLIQUE
(24.02.1848-02.12.1852)
Louis-Napoleon wurde am 10. Dezember 1848 zum ersten Präsidenten der Zweiten Republik gewählt. Er hatte nicht das Recht, 1852 erneut zu kandidieren. Louis-Napoleon beschloss, einen Putsch durchzuführen, der für den 2. Dezember 1851, den Jahrestag der Krönung des Adlers und das Gedenken an die Schlacht von Austerlitz, geplant war. Der Putsch wurde am 21. Dezember durch eine Volksabstimmung mit mehr als 7,5 Millionen Ja-Stimmen und nur 640.000 Nein-Stimmen ratifiziert. Victor Hugo ging am 12. Dezember ins Exil. Im folgenden Jahr wird er „Napoléon le Petit“ veröffentlichen, was Louis-Napoleon, der inzwischen Napoleon III. geworden ist, diesen berühmten Satz einbringen wird: „Napoleon le Petit von Victor le Grand“.
