Nous ne pouvons pas déterminer le nom du monétaire sur cet exemplaire. La facture du Cratère et le fait qu’il ne soit pas surmonté d’un symbole nous pousse à penser qu’il doit appartenir à une série relativement ancienne.

Historischer Hintergrund
BÖOTIEN - THEBEN
(5. – 4. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)
Theben war Athens großer Rivale. Während des Peloponnesischen Krieges (431-404 n. Chr.) war sie eine Verbündete Spartas. Es beherrschte Griechenland dank des Strategen Epaminondas, der nach der Befreiung von Theben im Jahr 379 v. Chr. nacheinander bei Leuktra (371 n. Chr.) und Korinth (369 n. Chr.) über Sparta triumphierte, bevor er bei Mantinea (362 n. Chr.) den Tod fand. Nach diesem Datum erzwingt Philipp II. von Mazedonien seine Herrschaft über Böotien. Theben wurde 338 v. Chr. bei Chéronée zerstört, wo Alexander seine Zähne ausbissen. Drei Jahre später wird die Stadt zerstört.
