Historischer Hintergrund
BELGIEN - KÖNIGREICH BELGIEN - ALBERT I.
(17.12.1909-17.12.1934)
Albert I. (8.04.1875-17.02.1934) trat 1909 die Nachfolge seines Onkels Leopold II. an. Er hatte 1900 Elisabeth von Bayern geheiratet (1876-1965). Im Ersten Weltkrieg befehligte er die belgische Armee und teilte das Schicksal der Soldaten, was ihm den Titel „Ritterkönig“ einbrachte. Der Versailler Vertrag von 1919 schenkte ihm die Gebiete Eupen und Malmédy. Er kam bei einem Kletterunfall in Marche-les-Dames ums Leben. Sein Sohn Leopold III. folgte ihm nach.
