Germany and France are thus jointly commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the signing in January 1963 of the Franco-German Treaty of Friendship, known as the Élysée Treaty. The difference between the national sides of the two countries is only on the mint mark and the edge (for Germany, the classic inscription “EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT” and the letter D). This commemorative 2 Euro coin is struck by the Monnaie de Paris and by each of the five German mints.
