Historischer Hintergrund
ILLYRIEN - APOLLONIA
(3. – 2. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)
Apollonia war eine Kolonie von Korkyra, selbst eine Kolonie von Korinth. Die Stadt litt zunächst unter korinthischem Einfluss. Ab 229 v. Chr. fiel es dann unter römisches Protektorat. Ab 100 v. Chr. verdrängte es Dyrrachium und ersetzte es. Die Stadt war berühmt für die Qualität ihrer Hochschulbildung. Octavian, ein Student, war in Apollonia, als Julius Cäsar 44 v. Chr. ermordet wurde.
