Ce quart appartient à une très rare série étudiée dès 1977 par Simone Scheers qui dressait le bilan de nos connaissances. Les rares provenances connues sont localisées au nord-est de la Vallée de la Somme et aux confins de la Belgique actuelle. Depuis 1977 nos connaissance n'ont que guère évolué avec un nombre très restreint de nouvelles monnaies connues. Cette variante de la série au bateau présente deux types de portrait ; l'un assez détaillé et l'autre (comme pour notre quart) ne présente qu'une masse ovale avec une sorte de nez pour signifier le profile très stylisé.
This quarter coin belongs to a very rare series studied as early as 1977 by Simone Scheers, who compiled a summary of our knowledge. The few known provenances are located northeast of the Somme Valley and on the borders of present-day Belgium. Since 1977, our knowledge has hardly evolved, with only a very limited number of new coins being discovered. This variant of the boat series features two types of portrait: one quite detailed, and the other (as with our quarter coin) simply an oval shape with a sort of nose to represent a highly stylized profile.

Historischer Hintergrund
GALLIEN - GALLIA - MORINI (Region die Manche und die Nordsee)
(2. – 1. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)
Die Morins, ein Volk im belgischen Gallien, lebten am Meer zwischen Étaples und Brügge in den heutigen Departements Pas-de-Calais und Nord für Frankreich sowie in den maritimen Regionen Flanderns und Zeelands. Ihre Nachbarn waren die Ambianer, die Atrebaten und die Menapier. Sie beteiligten sich 57 v. Chr. an der Koalition der belgischen Völker unter der Führung der Bellovaques. Sie stellten ein Kontingent von 25.000 Mann. Im Jahr 56 v. Chr. schlossen sie sich der Seekoalition der Veneter an. Caesar führte einen Feldzug gegen die Moriner und Menapier an, der scheiterte. Von Portus Itius (Boulogne-sur-Mer) aus, das auf ihrem Territorium lag, schiffte sich Caesar jedoch ein, um die Insel Bretagne zu erobern. Nach 54 v. Chr. setzte Caesar den Morins den Atrebate Commios als König ein, um ihm für seine Hilfe und Unterstützung während der beiden Expeditionen in die Bretagne zu danken. Im Jahr 52 v. Chr. stellten die Morins der Hilfsarmee ein Kontingent von fünftausend Mann zur Verfügung. Eine ihrer Oppida scheint Taruenna (Thérouanne) gewesen zu sein. Caesar (BG. II, 4; III, 9, 28; IV, 21, 22, 37, 38; V, 24; VII, 75, 76).
