Nous avions proposés dans MONNAIES XXVII, n° 698 un exemplaire qui ressemble à celui-ci sans la mention du septième consulat qui semblait totalement inédit et absent de tous les catalogues consultés avec cette légende de droit inconnue ! Nous émettions alors les hypothèses suivantes : le graveur se serait-il trompé en gravant un COS à la place d’un CENS ou s’agirait-il d’une nouvelle émission ou encore, pourrait-il simplement s’agir d’une imitation, ce qui reste peu probable vu la qualité des coins employés ? Nous avons la réponse avec cet exemplaire, il s’agit bien d’une pièce COS VII où le chiffre a pratiquement disparu.
We had proposed in COINS XXVII, No. 698 a example that resembles this one without the mention of the seventh consulate which seemed totally unpublished and absent from all the catalogs consulted with this unknown legend of right! We then put forward the following hypotheses: would the engraver have made a mistake in engraving a COS instead of a CENS or would it be a new issue or could it simply be an imitation, which remains unlikely given the quality of the dies used? We have the answer with this example, it is indeed a COS VII coin where the number has practically disappeared
