Ce type tardif a été copié par les Celtes du Danube, comme le fait remarquer M. Kostial dans la collection Lanz (n° 887). Il est tardif et les copies celtiques sont postérieures aux prototypes de Messembria.

THRAKIEN - MESSEMBRIA
(1. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)
Münzen im namen der Alexander III der Große
Messembria war eine wichtige Kolonie von Megara, die um 510 v. Chr. gegründet wurde. Sie befand sich auf Pont-Euxin, begrenzt durch das Schwarze Meer, nördlich von Apollonia Pontica. Port Thrakien beherbergte während des ionischen Aufstands gegen Darius zu Beginn des 5. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. Flüchtlinge aus Byzanz und Kalkedonien. Der Name der Stadt selbst bedeutet (Süden = Meshmbria auf Griechisch). Messembria verehrte den Sonnenapollo von Megara, seiner Metropole. Die Stadt wurde 72 v. Chr. von den Römern erobert.
