Beschreibung Vorderseite Tête à gauche, avec pour chevelure une seule rangée curviligne d'esses entrelacées dont la première forme le front et le dernier se termine en boucle sur le cou ; sous le sourcil, œil fait d'un point sur un arc de cercle ; nez droit bouleté en bout ; lèvres à deux points ; menton pointé ; oreille pointée ; cou assez long terminé par un trait horizontal en relief.

Beschreibung Rückseite Croix bouletée au centre, formée de quatre cantons : une esse au 1er canton, un annelet surmonté d'une lunule au 2e, un besant orné d'une lunule au 3e et un anneau pointé relié à un point au-dessus et un autre au-dessous au 4e canton.

Ce type de revers était représenté par cinq monnaies à la BN (n° 3016 à 3020).
Sur cet exemplaire, on devine une trace de frappe incuse d’un second exemplaire en bord de flan derrière la tête.

Historischer Hintergrund
GALLIEN - SÜDWESTGALLIEN - SOTIATES (Region die Sos)
(1. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)
Die Sotiates oder Sontiates bewohnten den Südwesten des heutigen Departements Lot-et-Garonne sowie einen Teil der Gers und Landes und befanden sich zwischen den Elusates und den Nitiobroges. Ihr Oppidum war Sos. Wenn das Volk der Sotiates selbst in den Kommentaren nicht erwähnt wird, so wohl Adietuanus, ihr Anführer (BG. III, 22). Letzteres wurde von Publius Licinius Crassus, Leutnant von Caesar, dem Sohn von Crassus, eingereicht, der 53 v. Chr. In der Schlacht von Carrhae sterben sollte, außerdem mit seinem Sohn. Adietanus hätte sich Caesars Stellvertreter erst nach der Kapitulation von Sos, der Hauptstadt seines Volkes, ergeben. Als er sich den Römern anschloss, erhielt der Sotiate-Häuptling den Titel „Rex“.
