La Somalie italienne est une colonie italienne de 1889 à 1941. Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, dès 1941, les Anglais occupent cette région, qu'ils quittent à la fin de 1949. L'administration de la région est alors confiée temporairement par les Nations Unies à l'Italie jusqu’en 1960, date de l’indépendance. Cette dernière période est appelée Amnistrazione Fiduciara Italiana della Somalia (A.F.I.S.)..

(1950-1960)
Ab 1884 war Somalia italienische Kolonialmacht. 1941 griffen die Alliierten Italienisch-Ostafrika an, das im November desselben Jahres aufhörte zu existieren. Zwischen 1941 und 1950 stand das ehemalige Italienisch-Somaliland unter britischer Militärverwaltung. 1949 beschloss die UN-Generalversammlung, Somalia ab dem 1. April 1950 unter UN-Treuhandschaft zu stellen. Diese Italien übertragene Treuhandschaft stieß in der Region auf Ablehnung, da Italien die ehemalige Kolonialmacht war und die italienische Verwaltung die Nachfolge der ehemaligen faschistischen Kolonialverwaltung antrat. Ab 1953 wurde das Mandat präzisiert, mit dem Ziel, die Unabhängigkeit Somalias bis 1960 zu erreichen. Tatsächlich wurde am 1. Juli 1960 die Unabhängigkeit der Republik Somalia ausgerufen..
