Youri Gagarine, en avril 1961, fut le premier homme à voyager dans l’espace, suivi quelques semaines plus tard, en mai par l’américain, Alan Shepard.

The obverse of the 5 Euro coin features portraits of Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and American astronaut Alan Shepard, as well as their two spacecraft, Vostok 1 and Freedom 7. Yuri Gagarin, in April 1961, was the first man to travel into space, followed a few weeks later, in May, by the American, Alan Shepard.
