So-called \\\"canoe\\\" coins are one of the most distinctive forms of Tamlungs, traditional currency that circulated in the Mekong Valley between the 14th and 19th centuries. Their name derives from their characteristic shape, resembling a small boat. Unlike other types of Tamlungs, which were generally minted in silver, canoe coins were made of bronze, with a varying proportion of copper depending on the issue.
