Entre 1942 et 1945, le nickel devenant un métal essentiel à l’effort de guerre, on le remplace par de l’argent dans la composition du flan. A noter que pour ce type on utilise pour la première fois la lettre P pour signaler les frappes de l’atelier directeur de Philadelphie.
Between 1942 and 1945, nickel became an essential metal for the war effort, and it was replaced by silver in the composition of the flan. Note that for this type, the letter P was used for the first time to indicate the strikes of the Philadelphia Mint.
