Nicolas Catinat de La Fauconnerie (1637 - 1712), maréchal de France, est un militaire français du XVIIe siècle, né à Paris le 1er septembre 1637 et mort à Saint-Gratien le 22 février 1712.
Issu d’une famille de la petite noblesse du Perche, fils de Nicolas II Catinat, magistrat, doyen des conseillers du Parlement de Paris, et de Catherine Poisle, il quitta dans sa jeunesse le barreau pour les armes : Catinat rejoint les Gardes-Françaises dès 1660 et gravira, par son mérite, tous les échelons du commandement.
Dès 1667, il se distingue lors de l'attaque de la contrescarpe au siège de Lille et reçoit du Roi une lieutenance dans le régiment des gardes. Blessé à la bataille de Seneffe, il sert avec distinction lors de la guerre de Hollande en 1676-1678. En mai 1679, il est capitaine et commande le détachement qui enlève près de Turin le comte Mattioli, secrétaire d'État du duc de Mantoue, convaincu d'avoir joué un double jeu et ridiculisé Louis XIV.

Magnificent contemporary portrait of one of the greatest military men of his time. Nicolas Catinat de La Fauconnerie (1637 - 1712), Marshal of France, was a 17th-century French soldier, born in Paris on September 1, 1637 and died in Saint-Gratien on February 22, 1712. Coming from a family of the minor nobility of Perche, son of Nicolas II Catinat, magistrate, dean of the councilors of the Parliament of Paris, and Catherine Poisle, he left the bar in his youth for arms: Catinat joined the Gardes-Françaises in 1660 and climbed, through his merit, all the ranks of command. In 1667, he distinguished himself during the attack on the counterscarp at the siege of Lille and received from the King a lieutenancy in the regiment of guards. Wounded at the Battle of Seneffe, he served with distinction in the Dutch War of 1676-1678. In May 1679, he was captain and commanded the detachment that kidnapped Count Mattioli, Secretary of State to the Duke of Mantua, near Turin, who was convicted of having played a double game and ridiculed Louis XIV.
