Poids léger. Revers de l’émission inaugurale de l’atelier d’Arles, frappé au 1/72 L. (poids théorique 4,51 g) au début de l’année 313 avant la réforme monétaire qui abaissa le poids du nummus au 1/96 L. Daté de 313, la fabrication de ce type peut être placée entre les mois de mars et de mai. La réforme du monnayage de cuivre intervient avant l’été entre mai et juin 313 et est marqué aussi par la disparition de Maximin II du monnayage occidental. Cette époque est encore mal connue et mériterait une étude de fonds permettant de combler les vides du Roman Imperial Coinage des volumes VI et VII. Un seul exemplaire recensé dans le Ferrando, en collection publique, de même coin de revers que notre exemplaire. Monnaie de la plus grande rareté, le seul exemplaire disponible en collection privée et le plus beau des deux connus !.
Lightweight. Reverse of the inaugural issue of the Arles workshop, struck at 1/72 L. (theoretical weight 4.51 g) at the beginning of the year 313 before the monetary reform which lowered the weight of the nummus to 1/96 L. Dated 313, the manufacture of this type can be placed between the months of March and May. The reform of copper coinage took place before the summer between May and June 313 and was also marked by the disappearance of Maximin II from Western coinage. This period is still poorly known and deserves a comprehensive study to fill in the gaps in the Roman Imperial Coinage of volumes VI and VII. Only one example listed in the Ferrando, in public collection, with the same reverse die as our example. Coin of the greatest rarity, the only example available in a private collection and the most beautiful of the two known!
