L'actuelle Châtelaillon tire son origine d’une puissante forteresse qui comptait quatorze tours, sise sur un promontoire dominant la mer et les marais. Le casino existe toujours et a un site internet. On peut probablement dater notre jeton des années 1930.
The present-day Châtelaillon originated from a powerful fortress with fourteen towers, perched on a promontory overlooking the sea and marshes. The casino still exists and has a website. Our token can probably be dated to the 1930s.

Historischer Hintergrund
L'AUNIS ET LA ROCHELLE
Aunis liegt zwischen Poitou und Saintonge und hat La Rochelle als Hauptstadt sowie die Städte Brouage und Rochefort. Es war im Besitz der Plantagenets und wurde 1224 eingenommen und dann im Vertrag von Brétigny (1360) verloren. Kurz darauf revoltiert Aunis und übergibt sich König Karl V. Es ist eine der Bastionen des Protestantismus im 16. Jahrhundert und zu Beginn des 17. Jahrhunderts bis zur Einnahme von La Rochelle im Jahr 1628.
